Fall on the Door

Believe me, I am not a fan of fake flowers...BUT when it comes to the front door, they are kind of the only option. The basket on my door was empty all summer ( I have summer flowers, I just had not time) and I decided it was finally time to fill it!

Step one: Buy the classiest fake flowers you can find on sale at Michaels! haha

Step two: Add in some additional fall leaves/berries/acorns/pine cones.

Step three: Add in some fake Golden Rain Tree lanterns to add just a little more class.

Step four: Mix them all together and you get.... Fall on the Door! Watch out Martha!

(Step five: vaccum the mess you made...hmmm hopefully that step gets done before the christmas wreath goes up! haha)

What I got

Did I share with you that I "accidentally" went Antquing twice right before Nicole and I plans to go antiquing! Opps! I didn't mean to, it just happened! haha

The first time was with my cowoker. Refresh yourself here.
Then the second was with Molly when we went to Lambertville. Refresh yourself here.

So what did I get you ask???? (and even if you didn't ask)

I got.....

Photobucket

2 Wood Corbels - These I shouldn't have gotten since they weren't $3 and I didn't need them. BUT I LOVE THEM! haha So I am glad I got them. I want to put them in the doorway between the living room and dining room. I just need to make sure my roommate is down with the idea, before my Dad comes over to hang them. : )

Photobucket

Photobucket

1 Fantastic Wood Tray - I have noticed on the blogs I read the fancy ladies have these great trays for entertaining. They have condiements and silverware (with some flowers tucked in naturally) that they can move around. Molly and I decided I needed one also! haha I also thought it might be great for drafting supplies if not for entertaining.

Photobucket

2 Rusty Garden Finials - These aren't actually old. I was chatting with the person at the store and the metal is from old fences. They melt them down and pour them in new molds. I have one in my dining room and one at work.

Photobucket

2 Silver Spoons - One small one for sugar and one large one for serving. I had wanted to get a old silver spoon for sugar, so I was happy to find a great selection for $3 each! Now I guess I need to go get some silver polish!

Photobucket

1 Star - A fun metal star, I have it hanging up at my desk at work. Trying to make my office a bit nicer, if that is even possible. haha

Fish Dinner on Vacation

I know vacation is long over, (whimper, sniff, whimper) but I wanted to share the dinner we made one night while down south!

We headed to the fish & produce market, got tomatoes, zucchini, squash, shrimp and some white fish. Then we also stopped to get some take-out hush puppies to round out all that healthily stuff! : )

Photobucket

We just sauteed the zucccini and squash. The shrimp we just boiled and made into a little shrimp cocktail app. They were really good shrimp, they actually tasted like shrimp (unlike the ones I get frozen at Costco!)

Photobucket

Speed Chopping!

Photobucket

We experimented with the fish. In foil packets we layered the tomatoes down, then the fish, then spread on top a mixtures of olive oil, fresh lemon juice, garlic, shallots, fresh thyme, lemon slices, capers, salt and and pepper. Then we wrapped up the foil packets and popped them in the oven.

Photobucket

It came out good, not great. Some bites were packed with flavor and very yummy but others tasted like nothing. haha I guess next time the key is to pick a less bland fish. But overall I liked it and might start making it at home when I am dieting, I'll just go light on the olive oil and skip the hush puppies. : )

Photobucket

Erin did a little something different with hers and made a citrus fish packet. That might be something to try at home too!

Oh we also had an uninvited guest after dinner. Don't worry, he was outside not inside!

Lady Day

A couple of weekends ago, me and my cousin Molly headed to a cute down town for a fun Lady Day. The weather was awesome and we had a great time.

We started at one of my favorite restaurants, and got a table outside in their beautiful outdoor eating area. (Please note the great use of William Penn Barberry as a privacy hedge between the patio and walking path!)

Photobucket

Love me some finials!

Some pics from around town:

Look at these amazing window boxes! And those Angel Wing Begonias! Love them! I am so planting them at my house next year!

Photobucket

I may want a mirror for the dining room, so as we peaked into gift stores and antique store we took note of the mirrors. This one in the top left was gorgeous, and reasonably priced. But it was SO HEAVY! Like crazy heavy! I really liked it was I was more "mirror idea" shopping than "actually mirror" shopping. And that turquoise dresser (yes I know it doesn't look turquoise, but it was) was one of the most fantastic pieces of furniture I had ever seen; the color and the finish! But it was at a very expensive store and i think it was a few thousand. (yes you read that right, a few thousand)

Look who we found:

Photobucket

So you know how I said I was just "mirror idea" shopping? Well had I had an extra $400 burning a whole in my pocket, I would have turned that "idea" shopping into actual shopping! Molly and I both stopped short as soon as we walked into this great store and came face to face with the prettiest and funniest mirror ever! (is funniest a word? I don't think it is) Oh man, did I want it. I wanted it bad, and I even considered it, but it was just too much. : (

On a happier note, we made some new friends! : )

Yay cute down towns, you never disappoint! See you in the fall or winter!

Simmering in my Cart

So Friday I did a little imaginary online shopping. I found the site Ruche from this blog a while ago. I check the site from time to time, although I have never gotten anything, 1) I seem to waste all my money on going out and decorating leaving none for clothes AND 2) I am not sure about ordering clothes you can't try on - the words "annoying return" just ring in my ear.....

But Friday I put a few things in my cart...I didn't purchase....I just filled my cart and decided to let it simmer over the weekend and see how I felt come Tuesday. And now it is Tuesday.....

Sadly due to some unexpected expenses of the lock smith, cavity and exam variety that cart is going to have to keep simmering....or better yet, just get emptied. (well the clothes anyway, maybe the earring can keep simmering)

Ill just have to give this site a try at a later more lucrative time....

p.s. 2 more weeks...just 2 more weeks...

Summer Vacation 2010 - Take 1

So last Saturday, my roommate and I packed up the car and headed south. To beautiful beach down in North Carolina to spend the week at my parents beautiful beach house.

Photobucket

Photobucket

The first night down here we hit up a local beach bar and had ourselves a grand old time. Although we didn't really take any pictures.

Photobucket

BUT we did partake in a line dance. Yes a line dance. Not a yew-hah line dance, but an organized "line" dance all the same. They love them down here. The dance floor will be empty, one will come on, and young and old, male and female all pour onto the dance floor...then promptly clear out once the song is over. So weird. This was the song we rocked out to. Cupid Shuffle by Cupid I was terrible since I am the worst dancer in the world, but it was fun.

Then Sunday we laid on the beach, read on the beach and made some yummy pizza for dinner. Need to take advantage of tomatoes while they are local and yummy.

Photobucket

I told the kids I babysit for I would bring them back some sharks teeth, but the treasure hunting has been pretty light, no shells or teeth in sight!

Photobucket

I do have to say, we have been getting in some fights with the weather though. These dark clothes seem to think they have been invited on vacation with us?!?!

Photobucket

But it is giving me some time to do some blogging and picture sorting which is good. : )

Photobucket

Tonight I think we are going to make another yummy dinner, as last night we ate out. And tomorrow my friend Erin arrives to join us for the rest of the week! Yay!
